Delhi HC Issues Notice on Umar Khalid’s Bail Plea
Umar Khalid, a former student from JNU, was arrested in 2020 for his role in riots in Delhi.
He has asked the court for bail, but the court has said no because the Supreme Court already said he couldn’t get bail.
Now the Delhi High Court has asked the police to reply to Khalid’s request.
The court will decide on August 27, together with a similar request from another accused, Sharjeel Imam.
Khalid wants to be released while the court looks at a bigger question about bail in cases like this.

The bench of Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Vikas Mahajan will hear Khalid’s plea on August 27, alongside co-accused Sharjeel Imam.
Khalid’s bail applications have been rejected twice before, with the Supreme Court upholding the Delhi HC’s orders.
The trial court said it had no option but to follow the Supreme Court’s January 5 order refusing bail to Khalid and Imam.
