SCR trackmen seek action on safety after eight on-duty deaths
Some people have a special job to keep railway tracks safe.
They are called trackmen.
They walk on the tracks every day to check if they are okay.
They also fix tracks and help during emergencies.
This job can be dangerous because trains can come at any time.
There are not enough trackmen, and many have to do the work of two or three people.
Sadly, about eight trackmen have died in accidents in recent months.
A workers' group called SCRES is asking the railway company to help.
They want more workers, safer equipment and better pay for risky work.
If trackmen are safe, passengers are safe too.
Trackmen under South Central Railway (SCR) inspect tracks, carry out repairs and respond to emergencies in all weather conditions, often walking several kilometres daily.
Prolonged staff shortages have increased their workload, with many trackmen handling the duties of two or three workers.
Around eight trackmen reportedly died in run-over accidents in the Warangal, Mahabubabad and Madhira sections in recent months.
The South Central Railway Employees Sangh (SCRES), Warangal branch, urged the railway administration to fill vacant posts, enhance risk allowance, provide quality safety equipment and ensure timely promotions.
Branch treasurer Md Rafiq demanded better working conditions, including drinking water, rest facilities and redeployment of women trackmen to suitable departments.
