Floods Cut Rasuwa Off as Bridges and Roads Collapse
Heavy floods hit Rasuwa and nearby districts on Wednesday.
The water destroyed many bridges and sections of road.
About 40 kilometres of roads in Rasuwa were completely damaged.
This cut the whole district off from Nepal’s main road network.
Several bridges near the Nepal-China border and in other parts of Rasuwa were washed away.
The government says 41 bridges were damaged across four districts.
It wants to reopen the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway and reconnect Rasuwa first.
Nepal has only seven temporary Bailey bridges available.
Because so many bridges need replacement, the government says help from other countries will be necessary.
Floods left Rasuwa disconnected from Nepal’s national road network after destroying roads and bridges.
About 40 kilometres of roads in Rasuwa were completely destroyed, including the Betrawati-Mailung-Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi route.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport reported damage to 41 bridges across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan.
Key crossings destroyed included the Miteri Bridge, two Bailey bridges at Timure, and bridges near Syaphrubesi and Mailung.
Nepal has only seven Bailey bridges in government stock, with a combined available length of 50 metres, so foreign assistance may be needed.
