High Court Grants Interim Protection to Abhishek Banerjee
Abhishek Banerjee, a member of the Trinamool Congress, was given temporary protection by the High Court for three criminal cases.
The court said it would not give blanket protection for all 11 cases until each one is heard separately.
The judge explained that different police stations have different allegations.
Abhishek’s lawyers argued that a similar protection was given to another politician, but the court disagreed.
The next hearing is scheduled for August 6.
High Court granted interim protection to Abhishek Banerjee in cases at Bishnupur, Bhowanipore, and Siliguri police stations.
Court refused blanket protection for all 11 criminal cases registered against him across West Bengal.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya said blanket protection cannot be granted until each case is heard individually.
Abhishek’s counsel cited a similar blanket protection granted to former opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari.
The matter will be heard again on August 6; interim protection applies only to the three cases.
