An Indian fisherman died in a prison in Pakistan.

The death happened on August 27, 2026.

Reports say he had finished his prison sentence in March 2022.

His Indian nationality had also reportedly been confirmed.

Even so, he was not sent back to India.

Activist Jatin Desai said this was the second similar death this year.

He said many other Indian fishermen are still in Pakistani prisons after finishing their sentences.

The 2008 agreement between India and Pakistan says eligible prisoners should usually be returned within one month.

Desai is asking for the fisherman’s remains to be brought back to India and for other fishermen to be repatriated.
