A surprise inspection found 228.764 metric tonnes of wheat unaccounted for at two procurement centres in Balrampur.
The missing grain is estimated to be worth nearly ₹60 lakh at the minimum support price.
The first centre reportedly had 67.111 tonnes remaining after recorded purchases and dispatches to the Food Corporation of India.
The second centre was expected to hold 161.653 tonnes, but officials allegedly found no wheat in storage.
An FIR was registered at Tulsipur police station after a complaint by Provincial Cooperative Federation district manager Ashwani Shukla.
