Tiendas 3B adapts some stores while keeping its discount model

Tiendas 3B is a Mexican discount-store chain, and its branches do not all look the same.

Its store in Guerrero has a simpler presentation, while locations in Polanco and Condesa offer a different look and more gourmet and healthy products.

The chain’s core model focuses on a limited range of frequently bought goods, with many products under its own brands.

This helps keep operations and costs down, allowing it to compete on prices for everyday items.

The different stores show how the company is adapting to neighborhoods where shoppers may expect a wider selection or a different shopping environment.

The company says more than 60% of its products are exclusive brands.

It also planned to invest 5.2 billion pesos during the year to open 590 to 630 stores and strengthen its logistics and technology, according to a June report cited in the story.

Its challenge is to expand and adapt stores without raising costs so much that it undermines its low-price offer.
