Thieves steal 30,000 bottles of wine from Tuscan winery
Thieves took about 30,000 bottles of wine from a Marchesi Antinori warehouse near Cortona, in Tuscany, Italy.
The winery says the bottles are worth an estimated €5 million and include its Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso wines.
The theft happened last weekend, and staff discovered it on Monday.
Investigators say at least seven thieves disabled security systems and used the winery’s forklifts to load two trucks.
The family-run company has made wine since 1385, and the stolen bottles were being prepared for shipment to buyers abroad.
The scale of the theft makes it the biggest wine robbery known in Italy, according to the winery.
