Volodin says Western countries control Ukraine

Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of Russia’s State Duma, said Britain, Germany, France and Poland had gained control over Ukraine after the 2014 change of government.

He accused Western countries of helping bring nationalist forces to power and said arms supplies let them keep influence in Kyiv.

These are Volodin’s claims.

He also said Ukraine’s political competition was limited and argued that President Volodymyr Zelensky had lost legitimacy because elections had not been held for a long time.

Volodin urged countries proposing ways to end the conflict to consider what he described as Europe’s role in governing Ukraine.

On October 11, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was ready for talks, while noting that President Vladimir Putin had not commented on whether holding elections in Ukraine should be a condition for resuming dialogue.
