Police investigate 19-year-old woman’s shooting death as femicide
Ana Clara Soares de Oliveira, 19, was shot and killed early Monday in a home in Taboão da Serra, near São Paulo.
Police are investigating her death as femicide, a killing of a woman linked to her gender.
Her former partner, Mateus Isaac Cardoso Silva, 22, is the main suspect and is being sought by police.
Police records say he told a friend he had killed Ana Clara and then fled on the friend’s motorcycle.
Relatives told police that the couple’s relationship involved violence, threats and controlling behavior.
Investigators are examining the scene and the victim’s phone, and are checking nearby security cameras to trace the suspect’s route.
Police are continuing to search for him and for the gun used in the shooting.
