Galen Rupp sets American masters marathon record in Chicago

Galen Rupp ran the Chicago Marathon in 2:06:54, finishing 11th overall and fourth among American runners.

At 40, he set an American masters record, beating the previous mark of 2:10:02 by more than three minutes.

Elkanah Kibet set that record at the 2024 Olympic Trials.

Rupp won the Chicago Marathon in 2017 and the Prague Marathon in 2018, where he ran his personal best of 2:06:07.

Injuries, surgeries and the pandemic disrupted his career after that.

His Chicago time was his fastest in five years, but it was not a personal best.

The current American marathon record is 2:04:43, set by Conner Mantz in 2025.
