Moab 240 stopped because extreme weather made the course unsafe

Organizers stopped the 2026 Moab 240 on Sunday because severe weather made parts of the course unsafe.

The race takes place near Moab, Utah, and sends runners about 240 miles through desert, canyons and mountain ranges.

Heavy rain caused a creek to rise, leaving runners and volunteers stranded overnight near the Bridger Jack aid station until they were evacuated Sunday.

High winds, falling trees, flooding and cold temperatures added to the danger, and worse weather was expected.

Runners were told to stop at the next aid station and wait for crews or shuttles to collect them.

California’s Aaron Kubala was leading with about 35 miles left, and Ashley Paulson was leading the women’s race.

Neither they nor any other runner officially finished before the cancellation.

Organizers said safety was their priority; the sources do not say whether the race will be rescheduled.
