Houthi Claim Riyadh Airport Strike as Saudi Arabia Extends Shutdown

Yemen’s Houthi group said it fired a ballistic missile at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Monday and sent drones toward a base in southern Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s military-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile headed for Riyadh, so the two sides gave different accounts of the attack.

The claims came after earlier strikes on the airport, which the report says killed dozens and injured hundreds.

Saudi aviation authorities extended the airport’s shutdown while they check the facility and its readiness to operate, but gave no reopening date.

The Houthis also warned workers to stay away from Saudi oil facilities and airports, which they said could be targets.

The US embassy said some American citizens had been detained for recording events in Saudi Arabia, without giving a number or saying whether they had been released.

A Houthi official warned the United States against joining the conflict, saying the group would retaliate if it became involved.
