Mexican stocks rise as investors weigh possible interest rate cuts

Mexico’s stock market rose on Friday, and its main index, the S&P/BMV IPC, ended the week 2.35% higher.

The index gained 1.63% that day, while the FTSE BIVA also advanced.

Mining company Grupo México led the gains among the main index’s stocks, rising 5.26%.

Investors were weighing the possibility that Mexico’s central bank, Banxico, could cut interest rates further.

Minutes from the bank’s September meeting showed it had left rates unchanged.

Lower rates can affect the cost of borrowing and investment decisions, which helps explain why expectations about them matter to markets.

The day’s gains also tracked US markets as oil prices fell after Donald Trump said there would be no attacks on Iran before legislative elections.
