Orsini says Italy’s investment tax relief should continue

Emanuele Orsini, head of Italy’s Confindustria business group, said an investment tax measure called hyper-depreciation had worked and should continue.

Speaking in Milan, he said the government had set aside €2.5 billion for the measure and that investment requests had already exceeded €7 billion in the first months.

He said the scheme had also helped economic growth.

Orsini said energy costs affect Europe’s competitiveness.

He did not take a position on whether Italy should resume buying Russian gas, saying the issue was outside his role.

He argued that energy policy should not be driven by ideology.

He said Confindustria would go to support suspending the EU emissions trading system on Thursday, adding that existing actions had not resolved the problem.

It managed to provide help to GDP growth too, because we saw requests made in the first months against two and a half billion from the government: already more than 7 billion in investments, so it is very positive.
