Miriam González launches Democracia 21 ahead of Spain’s 29 November election
Lawyer Miriam González has launched Democracia 21, a new political party in Spain, ahead of the general election on 29 November.
The party plans to run in Madrid and Barcelona in this election, with the aim of standing across the country in future elections.
González says Spain should focus on restoring social mobility and making it easier for young people to get ahead.
To address housing costs, she proposes removing all housing-related taxes for people under 35 until housing becomes more affordable.
She also calls for changes to public institutions, including reducing political influence over the judiciary and creating specialist courts for corruption cases.
Other proposals include cutting subsidies to political parties and limiting officials to two terms.
The party says it wants to offer an alternative to Spain’s established political blocs.
