Leonard Nimoy Played a Boxer in a TV Series Filmed at West Point

Before he became known as Spock on Star Trek, Leonard Nimoy acted in The West Point Story, a TV series about the US Military Academy in New York.

The syndicated anthology series ran for two seasons, from 1956 to 1957, and was filmed at West Point.

Nimoy appeared in two episodes as cadets.

In one, he played Tom Kennedy, a skilled boxer whose brother urged him to leave the military and return to boxing.

Nimoy had served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 in its entertainment branch.

Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry also worked on the series, writing more than a quarter of its 40 episodes.

The show is an early link between two figures who later helped shape Star Trek.
