仙台 zoo adapts care for Japan’s oldest African elephant
Mary is an African elephant at a zoo in Sendai, Japan, and is estimated to be 60 years old.
Keepers cut her grass and straw into smaller pieces because her teeth make chewing long plants difficult.
They also check her health daily, practise movements needed for treatment and keep her warm in winter.
These changes help the elderly elephant stay healthy and comfortable.
