BMW Industries begins colour-coated steel production at Bokaro plant

Kolkata-based BMW Industries has started making colour-coated steel at its plant in Bokaro, Jharkhand.

The product is steel with protective metallic and paint coatings, designed to resist corrosion.

The new line is the first phase of a greenfield downstream steel complex being built under the company’s ₹800-crore expansion plan.

BMW Industries says demand is growing in sectors including infrastructure, construction, cars, consumer goods, renewable energy and defence.

The project is part of a government scheme intended to encourage production of higher-value steel in India.

The company currently serves the domestic market and may consider international sales depending on market opportunities and demand.

It plans to bring more coated steel production lines online as the wider complex develops.
