Greta Gerwig Secures Led Zeppelin Song for Narnia Film
Greta Gerwig is making a Netflix film based on The Magician’s Nephew, part of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.
The story is set before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, although it was published as the sixth book in the series.
Gerwig first suggested making it to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos in 2019, then agreed to write it when he asked.
Led Zeppelin approved the use of “Stairway to Heaven” after Robert Plant and Jimmy Page saw a cut of the film.
The song’s themes of faith and false idols connect with ideas in the Narnia story, while its 1971 sound contrasts with the film’s circa-1900 setting.
The film is due for release in February, though the year is not specified here.
Greta Gerwig secured permission from Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to use “Stairway to Heaven” in her Narnia adaptation.
The film, “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,” adapts C.S. Lewis’s story about the creation of Narnia.
Gerwig presented the film’s first trailer in New York City on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The trailer uses the song as Aslan sings Narnia into creation.
Gerwig said the song’s themes of faith and the danger of false idols spoke to her.
