Archaeologists study ceramics found along the Mexico-Querétaro train route
Archaeologists working along the route of the Mexico City-Querétaro passenger train have found ceramics at sites in Hidalgo and Querétaro.
The objects include vessels, ritual items and pieces from burials, some preserved almost completely.
A new ceramics laboratory in Tepeji del Río de Ocampo, Hidalgo, will help researchers study and reconstruct them.
The finds show people lived in the region from at least 400 BC to 1521 AD.
They include evidence of Teotihuacan, Toltec and Mexica presence, as well as links with places such as Oaxaca, the Huasteca and the Gulf Coast.
Researchers say the materials can reveal how communities changed and traded with other regions over centuries.
The objects will be catalogued and stored, while selected pieces may be displayed and others used for research.
