Cádiz PP calls for Algeciras mayor to resign after two sexual assault complaints
The Cádiz branch of the People’s Party has called for Algeciras mayor José Ignacio Landaluce to resign after learning of two complaints alleging sexual assault.
The complaints were made by two women affiliated with the party, and the alleged conduct is not established as fact.
Landaluce, who is no longer a party member, has led the city in southern Spain since 2011.
Twelve of the 15 party councillors in the city government signed a request for him to leave office.
The party says it will respect his presumption of innocence, but says the complaints have led it to lose confidence in him.
It has told councillors to withdraw their support and resign from government roles if he refuses to step down.
