11-year-old dies after fire involving paint thinners in Tamil Nadu

An 11-year-old boy died after catching fire while playing with paint and paint thinners at his home.

The boy, identified as I. Kavin, was a Class VI student in Pachampettai village, Tamil Nadu.

His father had bought paint and other supplies to work on the family’s old house.

Police said Kavin took some paint and thinner bottles to the terrace while his parents were away and accidentally started a fire with a matchstick.

His father and neighbours tried to put out the flames, but Kavin suffered severe burns and his father minor burns.

They were taken to a government medical college hospital in Chennai, where Kavin died.
