Rural work demand under India’s new scheme rose 25% in September

More households in rural India sought work through the new government scheme in September.

The total rose to 15.6 million, up 25.2% from August.

The scheme guarantees up to 125 days of work a year, compared with 100 days before.

The figures show how many households are seeking work, not how many have received it.
