Karnatak business group welcomes GST Council decisions
The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed decisions made at a recent meeting of India’s GST Council.
The meeting was chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The Council decided to keep GST rates unchanged and review them at a dedicated meeting once a year, which the chamber says will help businesses plan.
Other decisions include removing the power of arrest under Section 69 of the CGST Act and raising the prosecution threshold from ₹1 crore to ₹5 crore.
The chamber also welcomed lower general penalties, broader refund eligibility and the automatic provisional approval of 90% of eligible refunds in some cases.
Small businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore can have late fees waived if they file their taxes by the end of the month.
