Zimmer Biomet cuts planned Winterthur job losses to 490
Medical technology company Zimmer Biomet plans to cut 490 jobs at its Winterthur site in Switzerland, down from 580 in its original plan.
The company had 730 jobs there, so a large part of the workforce will still be affected.
Some production will move to other company sites, while the DynaForge forge and production of certain hip components will remain in Winterthur.
Support functions and research and development will also stay at the site.
The changes are due to be phased in by 2030, and the company says no jobs are expected to be affected before 2028.
The longer timeline is intended to allow more internal transfers, natural departures and early retirement; a solution has also been found for nearly 100 apprentices.
The company says it is reorganising its production network to improve efficiency, while the city welcomed the smaller cuts and said it would continue working with the company on the site’s future.
