Prosecutors seek restrictions on assets linked to 85 people in fund probe
A prosecutor’s office has issued instructions concerning 85 people named in a fund investigation.
It asked institutions to take precautions against transactions that could reduce those people’s assets, including large cash withdrawals and transfers, sales, gifts and mortgages.
For unusual transactions, institutions were told to seek the prosecutor’s view before proceeding and to report suspicious activity to Turkey’s financial intelligence agency, MASAK.
Government agencies were also asked to check whether the people own registered property, ships or aircraft and send the results to the prosecutor’s office.
Ordinary activities such as receiving salaries or pensions, paying bills and carrying out normal work should not be blocked.
The instructions do not mean that the people have been found guilty; the agencies’ checks and reports are the next steps described.
