Kerala may restore inpatient care at Pozhiyoor health centre as a special case

Kerala’s Health Minister said inpatient care is generally not possible below taluk level because it requires major investment in staff and infrastructure.

N. Sakthan asked the government to restore inpatient services at family health centres in Pozhiyoor and Chenkal, saying the services had been stopped by the previous LDF government.

The minister said both centres are primary health centres converted to family health centres, intended to provide primary care and coordinate public health work.

Sakthan said Pozhiyoor had offered inpatient care for 15 years before it was withdrawn.

The government will consider restoring inpatient care at Pozhiyoor as a special case because it serves a coastal area.

The minister did not make the same commitment for Chenkal.

Sakthan also called for faster development of Neyyattinkara General Hospital.
