Nana Patekar cremated with full state honours in Pune

Nana Patekar, a veteran actor in Hindi and Marathi cinema, died at 75 at his home in Goa early Thursday.

He was found unconscious and taken to hospital, where doctors said he had suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

His remains were flown to Pune and taken to his farmhouse in Donje village, where he had wanted to be cremated.

His son, Malhar, performed the last rites late Thursday under full state honours.

More than 1,000 people gathered to pay their respects, alongside public officials and members of the film industry.

Patekar was known for intense performances across a career spanning several decades.

He also co-founded the Naam Foundation, which supports farmers and rural communities affected by drought.

His son said the family would continue the foundation’s work.
