Unlicensed driver fined after five children found unrestrained in van

Queensland police say they stopped a 36-year-old woman in a van on Brisbane Road in Redbank, Ipswich, on October 9.

The van was allegedly travelling at 77km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Five children aged from four months to nine years were in the back without proper restraints.

Police say the baby was being held by a five-year-old.

The woman did not have a driving licence, police allege.

She was fined $6,993, received 23 demerit points and was charged with driving without a licence.

Proper restraints are intended to protect children in a crash, when they cannot protect themselves.
