Korean police institute gains accreditation for drug testing

The Advanced Policing Science and Technology Institute at the Korean National Police University has received accreditation to test controlled drugs.

The recognition was granted on September 17 by KOLAS, South Korea’s national accreditation body.

KOLAS assesses whether testing bodies meet international standards for quality management and technical ability.

The institute had already gained accreditation for handwriting and document examination in December last year.

It plans to connect research, including artificial intelligence-based drug detection, with its testing and quality systems for use in forensic work.

It also plans to seek accreditation for DNA testing, aiming to expand its recognized capabilities and strengthen confidence in its results.
