Palestinian photographer Mahmoud Abu Hamda wins Bayeux awards for Gaza work

Palestinian freelance photographer Mahmoud Abu Hamda won the photography prize at the Bayeux awards for war correspondents on October 10.

He also received the audience’s choice award for his work, “What the war leaves behind it.”

Abu Hamda is based in the Gaza Strip and did not attend the ceremony in Bayeux, France, sending a video message instead.

The awards recognize reporting from conflict zones.

Other top prizes went to The Washington Post for print reporting from Ukraine, NPR for radio reporting from Gaza and CNN for television reporting from the West Bank.

The results highlight journalism documenting the effects of war and conflict in several places.
