Pence urges Trump to reverse temporary Russian diesel supply license

Pence urges Trump to reverse temporary Russian diesel supply license

Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has urged President Donald Trump to cancel a temporary license allowing Russia to supply diesel to global markets.

Pence also called for stricter sanctions on countries that buy Russian energy and more military support for Ukraine.

The U.S. Treasury Department issued the license as fuel prices rise in the United States.

Trump said Russia would supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, followed by further deliveries.

Pence argues that easing restrictions helps Russia while its war against Ukraine continues.

He warned that a Russian victory could threaten European security and could eventually lead to a confrontation involving U.S. forces.

The dispute highlights disagreements within the Republican Party over balancing fuel supplies with pressure on Russia; the war in Ukraine is ongoing.
