One in five Israelis reports severe mental health-related impairment
A study found that one in five Israelis still has severe difficulty with daily activities because of mental health problems.
The findings are based on a nationally representative survey updated through May 2026.
The survey follows the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, and years of fighting that followed.
Most people are recovering, but the study says distress has become long-lasting for a significant share of the population, and women reported more impairment than men.
About 15% of respondents said they had the highest level of personal exposure to trauma, such as being present during the events or knowing someone injured or killed.
The study also found links between exposure to disturbing media content and symptoms of post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression, but it cannot show that the content caused those symptoms.
Researchers recommend avoiding unnecessary exposure to disturbing images and videos.
