Mental health is Brazil’s top health concern for 58% of adults surveyed
An Ipsos survey found that 58% of adults in Brazil consider mental health one of the country’s main health problems.
The survey interviewed about 1,000 people in Brazil as part of a study of 22,528 adults in 32 countries.
The figure rose from 52% in a similar survey last year and is higher than the global average of 48%.
These results measure people’s perceptions, not how common mental health conditions are in Brazil.
Women in Brazil were more likely than men to name mental health as a major concern: 68% compared with 47%.
Mental health has ranked as the top health concern in Ipsos’s global survey since 2023.
The findings point to growing public concern, while the survey also found that people are more likely to think often about physical health than mental well-being.
An Ipsos Brazil survey found that 58% of Brazilian respondents named mental health as one of the country’s main health problems, up from 52% in a similar survey last year.
Brazil’s figure was above the 48% global average; Germany and Colombia also recorded 58%, while Chile ranked highest at 75%.
Mental health was cited by 68% of women in Brazil, compared with 47% of men, a gap of 21 percentage points.
The survey measured people’s perceptions of health concerns, not the incidence or prevalence of conditions in Brazil.
Across the 32 countries surveyed, 64% said stress had affected their daily lives at least once in the previous 12 months, and 61% said they had felt too stressed to cope.
