New Conica track surface aims to keep Lausanne among the fastest venues

Athletissima, Lausanne’s Diamond League athletics meet, has a new track surface at the Stade de la Pontaise.

The surface was made by Swiss company Conica and cost CHF 1.5 million.

The meeting began in 1977, the same year Conica was founded.

They began working together in 1986, when Athletissima moved to Pontaise, and the stadium has used Conica surfaces ever since.

The track is designed to help keep the venue among the fastest on the Diamond League circuit.

Lausanne’s winters can reach minus 20 degrees, while summers can be very hot, making the local climate an important factor in choosing a surface.

The meeting’s organisers and Conica say their long partnership reflects how the surface suits those conditions.
