Neuer to miss Bayern’s Champions League match in Stavanger

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will not start the team’s Champions League match in Stavanger on Tuesday.

Coach Vincent Kompany said Neuer has been feeling discomfort in his foot and missed training.

Jonas Urbig will start in goal, with Sven Ulreich available as the backup.

It is not yet clear whether Neuer will be fit enough to be in the squad.

Neuer had made a costly mistake in Bayern’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw with Augsburg on Saturday, but the club said the decision to leave him out was medical.

Bayern had already planned to give Urbig more playing time this season, and some rotation may have happened even if Neuer were fit.

The club has said it wants to manage Neuer’s season and the transition to Urbig, but it has not given a timeline for Neuer’s return.

It was a purely medical decision. It had developed a little further.

I don't think it's that bad, but of course: If he didn't train yesterday, didn't train today, then at this stage of the season it makes no sense to take an unnecessary risk.

Yesterday was a mistake. He said so himself. That can always happen.
