Breast cancer survivor finds treatment for hormone therapy-related vaginal dryness
Magda, 47, lives in Geneva and is in remission after breast cancer.
Since 2018, the daily hormone therapy she takes to help prevent the cancer from returning has caused severe vaginal dryness and pain.
She says it made walking difficult and sex painful, and that earlier solutions raised concerns about cancer returning.
At a Geneva clinic, she tried injections of hyaluronic acid, a substance that binds water, into the vaginal lining.
She says the treatment helped; the area is numbed, and the procedure takes about 30 minutes.
The clinic recommends at least two sessions, six months apart, and says the body may then regain natural moisture over time.
Magda says the effects of hormone therapy on intimate health after breast cancer are rarely discussed.
