Cardiologist says weight-loss injections may help improve heart health

Cardiologist Timur Timurkaynak discussed heart health and newer weight-loss treatments in an interview in Turkey.

He said GLP-1 medicines can help people lose weight and improve blood sugar, and that some patients may also see better blood pressure.

When those measures improve, doctors can reassess other medicines, but patients should not change treatment without medical supervision.

Timurkaynak argued that managing obesity and insulin resistance can help protect health over time.

He also said that COVID-19, rather than COVID vaccines, can contribute to heart attacks, while women may have less obvious heart attack symptoms, especially after menopause.

His approach is to lower the injection dose gradually once a patient reaches a target weight, while building regular exercise and healthy eating habits.

The treatment and dose plan depends on the patient and should be followed with a doctor.
