Turkish parliament speaker marks İlim Yayma Society’s 75th anniversary

Turkey’s parliament speaker, Numan Kurtulmuş, spoke at a gathering in Istanbul marking the 75th anniversary of the İlim Yayma Society.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also attended.

Kurtulmuş said the society was founded to help poor people in Anatolia get an education and to support religious and charitable activities in Turkey.

He praised the volunteers and supporters who helped it grow through difficult periods, including after the 1960 military coup.

He said the society had helped educate people who went on to become professionals and public officials.

Kurtulmuş said the group now faces new responsibilities, despite having more resources than it did in the past.

He said it plans to carry out work for the benefit of humanity with future generations.
