Trump announces temporary deal for Russian diesel imports
US President Donald Trump says the United States will allow imports of diesel from Russia after agreeing on deliveries with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The US Treasury has temporarily authorized the sale, shipment and import of Russian diesel until April 7, 2027.
Trump said more than 300,000 tonnes would be made available immediately, with further deliveries planned, though some amounts and timing depend on the condition of Russian refineries.
Russia also announced it would lift its ban on diesel exports.
The deal reverses direction from a law Trump signed in September that expanded sanctions on Russia and sought to curb its oil and gas exports, which help fund its war against Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the agreement, saying Russian energy sales would support the war.
