A year into Gaza ceasefire, strikes continue and rebuilding has stalled
A U.S.-brokered ceasefire in Gaza began a year ago, after war that followed the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct.
7, 2023.
The agreement halted major military operations and led to the return of all remaining hostages, but Israeli strikes have continued.
Most of Gaza’s roughly 2 million Palestinians remain displaced, many living in tents, damaged buildings or shelters made from rubble.
Little rebuilding has taken place, and residents continue to face shortages of aid and basic supplies.
The deal called for a new Palestinian administration and an international force to help oversee postwar arrangements, but those plans have not taken effect.
Israel and Hamas disagree over whether Hamas must disarm before other parts of the agreement move forward.
The stalled plans and continuing Israeli control over parts of Gaza leave residents with no clear path home.
