Leclerc expects fuel prices to fall in November under government plan

Michel-Édouard Leclerc, head of French retailer E.Leclerc, said fuel prices could fall in November.

He was speaking on Franceinfo on 12 October 2026.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu was due to meet fuel retailers in Paris that day to work out how to lower prices at the pump.

The government expects the cut to be 12 to 18 cents per litre.

Its plan involves releasing 10 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves over three months.

Leclerc called the plan a good move, but said the price drop depends on it being carried out as proposed.

Annual talks between food companies and retailers are due to begin in December, amid questions about how inflation may affect consumers.** (typo?
