Fontaines DC’s ‘Dopamine Chamber’ turns digital-age unease into darkly alluring rock

Fontaines DC’s ‘Dopamine Chamber’ turns digital-age unease into darkly alluring rock

Dublin band Fontaines DC have released their fifth album, “Dopamine Chamber.”

It follows “Romance,” their 2024 album, which became their first platinum-certified record.

Frontman Grian Chatten has said he wanted the new songs to address social media and the weakening of what it means to be human.

The lyrics question reality and desire, while sometimes offering promises of escape or salvation.

The music is dark and expansive, with songs such as “Marianne,” “Happy for You” and “Tongue.”

The album draws on sounds associated with earlier bands, but the review says these influences become part of Fontaines DC’s own musical world.

The review describes it as the band’s most cohesive record and says they make their arena-sized sound feel compelling.
