Police investigate ceiling collapse that injured 38 in Daegu

A ceiling finish collapsed on the second floor of a commercial building in Daegu, South Korea, on October 10.

The building was hosting a sales event for kitchen goods aimed at older people.

All 66 people at the site evacuated, and 38 suffered minor injuries; police said five people were still in hospital.

Police and other agencies are inspecting the ceiling and the rest of the building to check for structural defects or poor construction.

Investigators also obtained footage from a camera installed by the company holding the event.

Police are using the inspection and video to determine what caused the collapse, and are considering whether to pursue injury charges related to negligence.

No suspects had been formally identified at the time of the report.
