Economists suggest AI and several researchers for economics prize
The economics prize is due to be announced in Stockholm on Monday at 11:45 a.m.
The award is funded by Sweden’s central bank and is named in memory of Alfred Nobel.
Economists asked for their views suggested candidates including Deirdre McCloskey, Israel Kirzner, Richard Blundell and several researchers in trade, networks and political economy.
Axel Ockenfels said AI had changed research and teaching so quickly that it would deserve the prize if it could receive one.
His comments describe AI’s influence on economics, not an official nomination for the award.
The prize matters because it recognizes influential work in economics.

Other suggestions included researchers in international trade, political economy and networks.
