GTA 6 Demand Adds to PlayStation 5 Pro Shortages

Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro is out of stock on the company’s website, and some auction listings are asking more than $1,100.

The console launched in 2024 for $700, and its retail price has since risen to $900.

Demand for the Pro is partly linked to Grand Theft Auto 6, which is due on Nov.

19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The game is also designed to run on the standard PS5, and no other platforms have been announced.

Sony reportedly told distributors in September that the Pro could remain in short supply until 2027 because of high demand and temporary supply constraints.

A wider shortage of memory and storage components, linked to demand from AI infrastructure, is also limiting PlayStation supply.

The shortage matters to players hoping to buy the more powerful console ahead of the game’s release.

The reported supply outlook extends into 2027, but Sony has not publicly responded to a request for more information.
