UN Security Council to hold Russia-led meeting on rights violations in Ukraine

The UN Security Council is due to meet on October 14 to discuss human rights violations in Ukraine.

Russia initiated the informal meeting, which is listed in the council’s work program.

It is titled “Piercing the Blind Spots of Violations of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law in the Context of the Ukrainian Crisis.”

Arria-formula meetings allow direct dialogue between interested council members and government, international organization and non-state representatives.

The format was started by Venezuelan Ambassador Diego Arria in 1992 and is intended to involve all council members.

The discussion concerns issues within the council’s remit, and the meeting is scheduled for October 14.
