BBVA reports higher investment-banking profit per employee than major rivals

BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking division had 5,000 employees and earned €2.054 billion in the first half of 2026.

That was 21% more than in the same period a year earlier, measured in constant euros.

The bank’s employee count in the division has grown by 67% since 2021, while its profit has risen by more than 220%.

At the first-half pace, BBVA would generate about €820,000 in profit per employee over a year.

The figures reported for JPMorgan and Santander were about €253,000 and €262,000 in profit per employee, while BNP Paribas reported less than €180,000 before tax.

BBVA says its international reach and ability to arrange financing across markets help explain its results.

The bank is expanding in the United States and Asia as it builds a network linking its markets in Europe, Latin America and Turkey.
