Bolsonaro family steps up campaign against Brazil’s top court

Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro and his family are in a dispute with the country’s Supreme Federal Court.

On October 8, Justice Alexandre de Moraes canceled the passport of Flavio’s brother Eduardo and ordered his arrest.

Eduardo had been sentenced in June to four years in prison for seeking US support to pressure Brazil with economic sanctions.

The case came as the court was preparing to convict their father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, for attempting a coup.

Flavio accused de Moraes of stirring up trouble and said nearly 50 senators supported removing judges.

The family has called for judges it considers hostile to be removed, starting with de Moraes.

If Flavio wins the presidential election’s second round, he will have the support of a majority of judges on the court, according to the source.
